Sestina, Guy's Hospital Haematology Unit. 2010
The artwork suggests layers of carved wood, and the process of organic growth as expressed through pattern and repetition. The installation of the three images in different orders and orientations in different rooms introduces a sense of syncopation to the windows within the Unit and plays with the underlying ‘beat’ of the pattern.
To make the artwork, the designs were first printed on Japanese paper. These were then digitally translated for silkscreen and applied to the glass. As natural light filters through the artwork it offers precious moments of ‘fleeting beauty’. This complements the theme of the cherry blossom photographs by Ori Gersht which are also displayed in the Unit. |
